The Grey Crowned Crane (Balearica regulorum) is a bird in the cranefamily .

It occurs in dry savannah in Africa south of the Sahara, although it nests in somewhat wetter habitats.

There are two subspecies.

The East African B. r. gibbericeps (Crested Crane) occurs from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo through Uganda, of which it is the national bird,

and Kenya to eastern South Africa.

La Grue royale (Balearica regulorum) est un grand échassier de la famille des gruidae.

Elle vit dans les savanes sèches au sud du Sahara en Afrique, mais elle niche dans des habitats un peu plus humides

Il en existe deux sous-espèces.

Tsavo West National Park was established in 1948 and is bordered by Taita Hills to forests at the water margins.

It coveres a total area of 9065sq kms and hosts a wide variety of wildlife species from the 'Big Five' (Lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo and elephant), numerous other carnivores, gazelles to over 150 bird species.

It is covered in large, irregular patches of yellow to black fur separated by white, off-white, or dark yellowish brown background.

The giraffe is related to deer and cattle, but is placed in a separate family  the giraffidae , consisting of only the giraffe and its closest relative, the okapi.

You will often hear the elephants in Tsavo being referred to as "Red Elephants"

and whist they do sometimes appear to be red,

 the colour of their skin is no different than that of other elephants,

 it is just down to the red soil that much of Tsavo is covered in and which the elephants use to cover themselves with, during their dust baths

 Tsavo est célèbre pour ses paysages sauvages et ses « éléphants rouges » au cuir déteint à force de se rouler dans la terre.

De olifanten lijken een rode kleur te hebben, net zoals vele andere dieren in het park,

vanwege de rode aarde die ze op zich spuiten tegen ongedierte.

Enkel het mannetje draagt hoorns

Soms wordt de impala ook wel het "fast-food van de wildernis" genoemd. Deze naam danken ze niet alleen aan de eenvoudige beschikbaarheid van de soort als slachtoffer, maar ook aan de zwarte streep op de staart samen met de twee zwarte strepen op de billen, die bij een weglopend dier sterk doen denken aan het bekende M-vormige logo van McDonald's.
